Cox's Bazar is a city, fishing port, tourism centre, and district headquarters in Southeastern Bangladesh. Cox's Bazar is also known by the name Panowa, which translates literally as "yellow flower”. Another old name was "Palongkee". The modern Cox's Bazar derives its name from Captain Hiram Cox, an officer of the British East India Company, a Superintendent of Palongkee outpost. It is one of Bangladesh's main tourist spots. The city has the longest uninterrupted natural beach in the world. The beach in Cox's Bazar is the main attraction of the town with an unbroken length of 150 km (93 mi) also termed the "longest natural unbroken sea beach" in the world. There are several 3 stars and 5 star hotels provide the exclusive beachside area with accessories for the tourist.
Other than the beaches there are several places of interest near the town which can easily be visited from the town center like Himchari National Park; Aggmeda Khyang; Ramu; Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park; Radiant Fish World; Cox's Bazar–Teknaf Marine Drive.
